Iligan: Land of Flowing Wonders

                “Having reached Iligan City is something I could consider a milestone in my life.”

                I am a living testimony of Iligan’s all-encompassing bounty and splendor. When I first set foot in this place, I thought this is no different from other overpopulated cities where you could grasp nothing but dusts in the wind. But, when I started to peruse its very soul , I was being attacked with a typhoon of good things to say about ILIGAN CITY through the magnificent natural flowing wonders that welcomed me.

Few kilometers away from the city proper, I ventured the pavements towards the location of Maria Cristina Falls, situated  within the boundaries of Barangay Buru-un, Ditucalan and Maria Cristina, Iligan City. This falls is considered as “Twin Falls” because the flow of water is being split into two with a large rock that comprises its uniqueness. Seeing it for the very first time really moved my everything and stunned me completely. I couldn’t help my tongue from uttering “WOW!”  This 98-meter high waterfalls is also the source of hydroelectric power that is consumed in many parts of Mindanao.

My next encounter of Iligan’s exquisiteness was facing 90-meter high Tinago Falls with its verdant surroundings that captivated my innocent heart. Through a 100-peso ride from Buruun, I was able to arrive in such  place with a scenery that I never expected to be existing. The sounds of the water that falls breaks the solemnity of the place yet contributes to the great ambiance that everyone would love to dwell with.

 But oops, these are not the only waterfalls this city has. As far as I know there are more or less 23 CAPTIVATING waterfalls that surround the entire city.

Break the BLASPHEMOUS Curse! #7

            Heart-stopping.  Petrifying. Spine-tingling to the MAX! It really gave me a nervous breakdown. What I am pertaining to  is the very trending Filipino horror suspense film- “The Healing” directed by Chito S. Ronio, starring Vilma Santos as “Seth” and Kim Chiu as “Cookie” together with the supporting actresses and actors. It is not a typical Filipino horror movie because the twists are innovative and unexpected. To encapsulate the succession of the dreadful scenes, let me state it this way: It was all about a blasphemous curse caused by the forbidden revival of life from the shadows of death ( Daryo’s life) which was through the mighty hands of the faith healer Manang Elsa. Everyone who went through the healing process after the case of Daryo was doomed to death and their spirits will come to merge in Daryo’s body for his lasting survival. Seth, on the other hand, was the key of the curse for she was the one who urged Manang Elsa to treat her severely ailing friends.

       Yes, everyone who underwent the healing process got cured including Cookie who had a glomerulonephritis but here’s the consequence. As what the curse dictates, DEATH WILL FETCH THEM! How? Let’s us land on a very bloody and brutal scenes. Human apparitions, DOPPELGANGERS, came crashing their lives. You know the feeling of getting much staggered for in an instant, a suicidal doppelganger ,right after the surprising entrance of crows, would gonna wander towards the particular person, possess his body and turn him violent and outrageous, killing everyone he encounters remorselessly with an axe or a cleaver in his hand  and subsequently commit suicide. The scenes really made my blood boil not with anger but extreme fear. It made my eyes shed a tear of terror. In that dark place where I found myself watching the movie, with a very wide screen and very cool ambiance, I sometimes even turn my back, cover my eyes with my shaking hands and scream so loud, VERY LOUD. Imagine the intestines and the head that went rolling far from the body. Here’s more, the very stretchable tongue of the doppelganger, its sarcastic smile, its circular eyes with its circularly moving iris, its partly zombified moves and its overpowering force.

                The best part of it that really made my heart skip a beat and made my voice out of my throat, is when they thought the curse was over after Seth’s triumph over the doppelganger of Cookie. But, another doppelganger came to exist unexpectedly. OH MY GOSH!!! Cookie tried to escape from it for the second time but she was uncontrollably possessed. In Seth’s house, the GREAT ENCOUNTER happened. Doppelganger now is going to kill Seth who has not recovered yet from her fractured bones due to their previous encounter. Thanks God! Seth’s son, Jed, comes to rescue. While the intensity gets higher with all their joint forces for victory, the doppelganger touches Jed’s head, trying to manipulate it and whoah!!! JED’s DOPPELGANGER is here for back-up... WHAT THE!!! It’s getting irresistible... Well, cast of all your worries for it was not a worst ending. The blasphemous curse was BROKEN! How? KILL THE ONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD. Indeed, Daryo was killed. Demons all went gone by the wind together with the infuriating DOPPELGANGERS!!!

It’s really an outstanding horror film that would gonna immobilize you for some time.

                Look to the right. Look to the left. You never know…your DOPPELGANGER is right next to you. SCREAM!!!
